History
The Cap d'Antibes Beach Hotel is one of the iconic addresses of the French Riviera. Families have always mixed with night-time revelers on the Plage des Pêcheurs, coming to enjoy the sea baths. The restaurant, La Maison des Pêcheurs, was already an institution in the 1940s, with movie stars joining ordinary people. Eddy Barclay, Brigitte Bardot, and Johnny Hallyday came to rejuvenate there, and connoisseurs flocked to a table that sublimated seafood.
Arts
Follow in the footsteps of the great 20th-century painters such as de Staël, Chagall, and Picasso. Nicolas de Staël painted his last masterpiece, facing the Mediterranean from the fort of Antibes: The Concert, a sea of reddish-brown. The Grimaldi Castle now houses the Picasso Museum. The artists' villa-workshops are to be discovered in the surroundings, notably the Hartung-Bergman couple's house. In the summer, the jazz festival electrifies Juan-les-pins. The landscapes of Antibes offer spectacular backdrops for cinema. "To Catch a Thief" by Hitchcock and "La Piscine" by Jacques Deray were filmed there.
